The Kamloopa Pow Wow it is actually one of the largest in Western North America, yet for its size sadly it isn’t well known to tourists.

It’s a word that certainly crosses countries. Our states/provinces…BC and Western Australia have quite a few similarities.WA is young too having been founded in 1829. We also have a lot of Aboriginal tourism in the north of the state. Great first post…I’m looking forward to learning more about BC

We are actually from Kamloops – what a small world!

Aboriginal culture is so interesting and in BC there are lots of different groups all with their own traditions and identities. My great great grandmother (who I knew..she lived to be almost 100) was from the Kootenai/ Ktunaxa tribe in BC. I have family who live in Kamloops so got to go to the pow-wows when I was a kid..and when I went to university in Victoria I fell in love with the Haida Gwaii art. Its a huge part of Canadian identity!

I believe the Penticton Pow Wow is still held annually with the Penticton Peach Festival. I mentioned the Kamloopa Pow Wow as this is one of the largest held in Western North America :)
