It’s a wonderful memory Daidri, one we never would have gotten from a sports camp or week inside playing video games. There really is no replacement for accomplishing something together as a family. The fire was really upsetting for the local communities around the area, with the damage to the railway being one part of the overall impact. We are so lucky that the trestles were able to be replaced. I’m hoping to take a visit to Myra Canyon this summer to see how things have changed since my last visit 10 years ago 🙂

What a fun memory and exactly the type of trip I’d enjoy! It’s sad to think how fire can completely destroy things and yet thankfully in this case everything was restored. 🙂

It was a great trip Donna, very different than anything we’d done as a family before and a great bonding adventure. Although for two teenagers my brother and I probably would have enjoyed a day at the mall or the park better, now we have the hindsight to appreciate my dad’s motives 🙂

Haha no fresh food on this trip – just canned tuna, crackers, and some dried dinners we re-hydrated. I can’t even remember what we ate for breakfast. Luckily the scenery made up for the crummy food 🙂

Thanks Chris – I struggled to find a picture to use because the rail bed is so visually leading. Every photo had that sense of “where does this go” which is one of the feelings of cycling or hiking the trail as well. I haven’t heard of the lines in Vegas, will definitely have to google those! Thanks for the tip 🙂

What a gorgeous yet teasing image you have provided there! I want to see more but I guess that’s a great approach to take because it encourages readers to read more and then have a strong desire to actually visit the location. I think this would be an awesome experience, it kind of reminds me of the old train lines and tunnels through the mountains near the Hoover Dam just outside of Las Vegas, NV. We were only able to experience these from a distance but it just looks so cool to think about exploring and finding hidden treasures!
