Destination Anticipation – Sicily

We should be honest – we are in Sicily while writing this. But to be fair, it was just Christmas and New Years…maybe we are just adapting to the Sicilian way of life.

Sicily was a bit of a “spur of the moment” addition to our itinerary. Being unsure of how far through the Balkan and Turkish parts of our itinerary we’d get, we tentatively penciled the oft overlooked region of Italy and figured we’d get to it if we had time. And here we are!

The land of seemingly eternal sunshine, volcanoes, beaches, Greek ruins, and more delicious food than you can shake a stick at, Sicily has always seemed to me like a separate country. They have a very distinct cuisine, speak what is essentially a different language, and have a history that reads nothing like the “boot”. From the Greeks to the Arabs, the Normans to the Spanish – every culture left an impression that can still be found today.
