Sicily definitely follows the southern Europe “laissez-faire” attitude to schedules, etc. Buses and trains are often late, but they get you there eventually. It is definitely the best traveling from Palermo – trains and buses were plentiful and ran pretty much on schedule. We learned that you just need to add an extra day in here and there to account for Sundays (when almost nothing runs at all) or missed connections. It’s definitely worth visiting though!
