I don’t know if it is because we were raised with churches all around, but even the simplest of mosques or Islamic inspired palaces seems so much more amazing that an equivalent church (although some in Spain and Italy are definitely mind-blowing). We absolutely loved the Islamic buildings in both Bosnia and Turkey. I think we both agree, however, that some of the best examples of Islamic architecture are surprisingly found in Andalucia. Buildings like the Alhambra in Granada and the Mezquita in Cordoba absolutely boggled our minds!

It’s easy to forget that Islamic architecture can be found in so many regions around the world outside of the Middle East! I’m sure there are some amazing examples in Indonesia and Malaysia!

To me mosques are so much grander and more interesting than your run of the mill church (though I know Europe has many pretty churches), so these two mosques are high on my list of places to visit when we make it to Istanbul. The level of detail that goes in to the interiors is truly mindblowing!
