Archaeological evidence shows that Aboriginal people have been living on the West Coast of Canada for ten to twelve thousand years. As the first inhabitants of British Columbia, I can’t think of a better way to begin the A to Z Blogging Challenge than by advocating for Aboriginal tourism.

As a young province – BC was established in 1871 making it just 142 years old – Aboriginal tourism in British Columbia provides visitors with a unique cultural and historical element not often seen elsewhere. Aboriginal experiences encompass arts and crafts diplays, museums, historical sites, wildlife tours, and culinary experiences, meaning the options available are as unique as the people who visit.

Be it sampling a hot piece of bannock at a local Farmer’s Market, taking in a mesmerizing Hoop Dance performance at the Kamloopa Pow Wow, learning about the earliest Aboriginal peoples at the Royal BC Museum, marveling at the totems in Stanley Park, or  taking a guided salmon tour up the Burrard Inlet, adding an Aboriginal experience to a visit in British Columbia allows visitors to immerse themselves in local customs and traditions.
